Types of Transport

Fluvial

Taking into consideration the potential of its hydrographic basins, the fluvial transport still is little used in Brazil. It is a very competitive modal, being that it presents great transport capacity, low consumption of fuel and is less polluting than road transport. The vast majority of products transported by this modal are agricultural products, fertilizers, minerals, oil byproducts and alcohol. In the Amazon Basin; however, the transport of manufactured goods is well developed and in conjunction with the wood in the region, it is done on an international level, connecting many Brazilian ports with Peru and Colombia. The means of transport used are flat ferries, besides ships of all sizes, small, medium and large. The freight is calculated based on tons/kilometers or by the unit, in the case of containers. Its value is much better compared to road modals.

Lacustrine navigation is done on lakes and it is characterized for making the connection between cities and neighboring countries. This is a type of transport that is very restricted, considering that there are few navigable lakes and for this reason it does not have great importance in the international transport. It can be used for any cargo, as in sea transport.
